Van Oevelen: “I’m where I want to be. It’s an honour to wear this badge and this shirt”

Valencia CF goalkeeper Kayne van Oevelen spoke to the media on Wednesday following his arrival at the Club. The presentation was made even more special by a welcome message from Valencia CF legend Andrés Palop.

The past month

“It’s been a long summer, but I’m really happy to be here. Ipswich Town FC signed me, but I’m delighted to now be at Valencia CF.”

His contract and future

“I had several meetings with Marcos Abad, the goalkeeping coach. He has been very positive and has helped me a lot, as have the other players. Now it’s time for me to show what I can do and give everything I have. We don’t know what the future holds—I’ve only been here for two days.”

His strengths as a goalkeeper

“I can bring hard work and I always try to encourage my teammates from behind. I want to help the team in any way I can. I’d say I’m comfortable with the ball at my feet, good in the air and confident when playing out from the back.”

His role in the team

“Dimitrievski is a very good goalkeeper—you only have to watch him to see that. It’s up to me to push myself, push my teammate and push the rest of the team, and show what I’m capable of. Ultimately, the coach will make the decision.”

Mestalla

“The stadium is incredible. It’s a huge Club with an amazing stadium, and the fans are fantastic. I think it’s normal for supporters to react when they see something they don’t like. We’re here to respond on the pitch, and hopefully we can do that this Sunday.”

His loan move to Valencia CF after signing for Ipswich Town FC

“I was in a situation where I needed to prove to myself that I could work hard and help my teammates. It was Ipswich Town FC’s decision to make the move, and I’m very happy with how things have worked out. I’m delighted to be here at Valencia CF.”

The difference between the Eredivisie and LALIGA EA SPORTS

“I’d say the biggest difference is the quality of the players and the teams. In terms of the style of play, though, it’s quite similar.”
